AFE 2022: Microreactors: The Future of Nuclear Power in Alaska?

Various entities are promoting nuclear power as a carbon-neutral green energy alternative. Other groups are still concerned about the long-term storage of radioactive waste and potential radiological health impacts. For decades there has been discussion of small nuclear reactors for use on military bases and villages across Alaska. Now Eielson Air Force base in the Interior has been slated as the first DoD site to deploy a new Small Modular Reactor, or “SMR” Microreactor. Come hear the experts address recent innovations in nuclear power technology that may play a role in Alaska’s energy future.
