AFE 2022: Indigenous Alaskan Understandings of and Practices for Existential Continuity: Blending Indigenous Technologies with Western Science

February 10 @ 3:15 pm - 4:15 pm

Southeast Alaska Native culture has thrived for over 10,000 years. Although much of the 20th century was dominated by extensive natural resource extraction, today, industry and others are transitioning to replenish the lands and waters back to its original condition. Tribes in Southeast Alaska are taking the knowledge from their Ancestors and adapting it into programs that can provide a more sustainable future and focus on stewardship of resources. In this session, the Central Council of the Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska and the Prince of Wales Tribal Conservation District will speak about their innovative programs. If you’re interested in sustainable projects and indigenous knowledge, then this session is for you!
