AFE 2022: Hands Across the Bering Strait: Learning from Russian Spill Response and Collaborating for the Future
February 8, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
As seasonal sea ice diminishes and vessel traffic increases, the Bering Strait region’s natural resources, habitat, and people are at greater risk. This session will describe a collaboration between the Alaska Ocean Observing System and US and Russia World Wildlife Fund to develop an interactive, web-based tool that could be used by both US and Russian planners and responders for emergency incidents in the transboundary Bering Strait region. Case studies of Russian spills provide context for how spill response in Russia occurs, and how that compares with the US response system. If you are interested in US-Russia partnerships to address oil spill threats, then this session is for you!
