AFE 2022: Food Safety and Security After an Oil Spill — What do we need to know?
February 7, 2022 @ 11:15 am - 12:15 pm
Has an oil spill ever threatened your food resources? Are you concerned about what happens if it does? This panel will describe agency roles and factors in making—and communicating—decisions about the safety of wild foods after an oil spill. Panelists will provide brief presentations, but this panel is mostly interested in learning from the audience. What has your experience been in making harvest decisions if there has been an oil spill in your area? What information do you need and how would you like to receive it? What research might be needed to improve decisions or risk communications in this area for Alaska communities? Participants will be invited to provide input to a current project of the Oil Spill Recovery Institute. This session is for anyone interested in food safety or willing to share their thoughts about improving food safety communications and decision-making during an oil spill.
Panelists:
Sierra Fletcher, Nuka Research and Planning Group, LLC
