AFE 2022: Department of Energy Office of Legacy Management Program Update

US Fish and Wildlife Service will overview Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge and stewardship activities. Amchitka Island, Alaska was the site of three underground nuclear tests conducted in 1969 and 1971, including the largest underground test ever conducted by the U.S. Today, the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Legacy Management (LM) is responsible for managing an Amchitka site Long-Term Surveillance and Maintenance Plan and fulfilling the LM mission to protect human health and the environment. During this session, LM representatives and their strategic partners will provide an overview of their surveillance plan, review results of 2016 biological and water sampling at Amchitka Island, and preview geotechnical and chemical sampling planned in 2022.
