AFE 2021: Remedial Process Optimization 101: What Is It and How Can It Improve My Project?

February 10, 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Remedial Process Optimization 101 will provide an overview of RPO as a systematic and proven means for evaluating ways to managing the progression of a site towards regulatory closure.  It pertains to each step in the lifecycle of a remediation project, from characterization thru design, operations and closure. RPO is a proactive tool to evaluate and chart the best path forward, given the current remedy status.  Tools include mining the existing information and site  knowledge to select the optimal (i.e., least-cost) path towards closure and may involve life-cycle cost analysis; alternate treatment technologies and exit strategies; data management, applied statistics and visualization techniques; and performance-based management.  The overarching goal is to ensure that the remediation process is progressing efficiently toward stated site cleanup objectives and remain protective of human health and the environment. This presentation will provide guidance on various elements of RPO, including what RPO is, and provide examples of successful RPOs and RPO resources.
