AFE Keynote: A Virtual Fireside Chat with Best-Selling Alaska Author Dana Stabenow

Join Elder Patricia Cochran (Inupiaq) at 12:30pm, Thursday, Feb. 11 at when they sit down with best-selling Alaska Author Dana Stabenow to discuss her life, book characters and offer insights for prospective authors (and maybe even a new secret about her most-famous character, Kate Shugak).

Best-Selling Alaska Author Dana Stabenow was born in Alaska in 1952 and was raised in Cordova, Seldovia, and on a fish tender in lower Cook Inlet and Prince William Sound. She earned a BA in journalism from UAF in 1973 and an MFA in creative writing from UAA in 1985, and published her first novel in 1992, which sold maybe three copies. The first Kate Shugak novel, A Cold Day for Murder, won an Edgar award in 1993, and she has since written 37 or so novels total, a bunch of short stories, the Alaska Traveler column for Alaska magazine, and a kazillion blog posts on Stabenow.com. She is the founder of Storyknife Writers Retreat for women writers in Homer, just down the hill from where she lives.
