AFE 2021: Green Star Community Program – Become an Agent of Change in your Community!

Drop in and learn about the Green Star Communities program to see how it can benefit your villages environmental program. The program supports Alaskan rural villages that wish to focuses on waste reduction, energy conservation and pollution prevention. The program starts with an initial assessment focused on a community-wide review of local utility infrastructure and waste management services and provides information for the community to identify priority needs for improvement and specific action items. General information, training, and technical assistance is delivered and with materials designed to engage both decision-makers and the community members by providing practical, local, and sustainable solutions to many environmental and solid waste issues. Follow-up and technical support on specific action items identified from the initial inspection enable a work plan to be developed resolving environmental issues in the village and progress towards earning their Green Star Award.
