AFE 2021: Wetlands: Where Green Meets Blue, How does it Affect You?

March 3 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Wetlands are some of the most diverse ecosystems on the landscape. This diversity creates habitat for plants and animals and provides services for human communities, such as hosting traditional subsistence lands of Alaska’s Native Peoples, offering protection from floods, and improving water quality. While we understand why wetlands are important, we lack knowledge about the location and types of wetlands in Alaska. This session will focus on what wetlands are, how we map them, and how the National Wetlands Inventory (NWI) provides information to the public for land management and planning activities.
